Kid’s Dance Classes
All syllabus Jazz, Hip Hop and Contemporary classes are taught with the intention that students sit examinations in July/August each year. Whilst strongly encouraged, exams are not compulsory. A student’s appropriateness to sit an exam (or, in Jazz and Hip Hop, a Medal Test) will be decided by the teacher. Examination fees are additional to term fees.
Regular class attendance is vital for students to keep abreast of their syllabus work. Students must be punctual to classes to ensure they receive a complete warm-up.
JAZZ
Jazz has a number of styles within the jazz genre but the pure form of jazz you may be familiar with can be seen in musicals such as ‘West Side Story’, ‘Grease’, ‘Footloose’ and more current movies such as ‘Step Up’, ‘Chicago’ and the tv series , ‘Glee’. The levels are made up of a series of exercises including arm combinations, classical technique, floorwork, turns, isolations, leaps, amalgamations and dances.

All work is progressive and designed to develop co-ordination, strength, agility and style. Amalgamations include jazz, musical theatre, lyrical and contemporary. Creativity and initiative is encouraged with an Impromptu section (junior levels) and Student Choreography (Elementary levels and upwards). This empowers students to be confident in creating and performing their own choreography and exploring ideas. The syllabus is extensive and for students who reach the Advanced levels, it provides the tools to pursue performing, teaching or choreography to a professional level. Students can enter the syllabus at any age (and ability) at a level recommended in our ‘beginner level guide’ or as recommended by the teacher.
JAZZ BALLET CHEER
This is a great introduction class to dance for those new school aged students. Those that come from Ready Set Dance/Preschool programs, transition well into this class. Jazz Ballet Cheer focuses on ballet technique as well as sharp jazz dance aspects and for added confidence we use pom poms and have the group working together as a team.
An amazing class for those slightly older students that for recreation, want to have fun and build some confidence.
HIP HOP
HIP HOP levels are made up of a series of exercises including arm and foot combinations, travel & turns, isolations, tutting, floor work, amalgamations and dances.

Student choreography is incorporated at the higher levels to develop student initiative and creativity. Students choreograph their work individually with assistance from the teacher where necessary.
CONTEMPORARY

5 years upwards Our course consists of building beginning skills in musical theatre catering to the youngest performers with condensed versions of favourite Broadway and Hollywood animated musical reviews. We focus on singing, simple movement and everyone receives a speaking role, great practice for public speaking. Through creative activities we nurture their development in confidence, memorising, expression and singing on key. At the end of term the students will have the opportunity to perform in a mini performance on stage with a live audience. The class incorporates acting, singing and dancing, but please note it cannot take the place of a dance class. The time is spent setting and rehearsing lyrics and choreography, it does not teach dance technique. Students begin building improvisational skills through theatre games.
BALLET

Exercises are set to a range of exciting and up-to-date music. Technique progresses logically through the levels; no new steps are introduced until they have either been mastered at the barre, or at a slower tempo to ensure students acquire new skills from a strong foundation. The syllabus has been designed to complement styles performed at competitions/eisteddfods, and in the higher grades, what students may be asked to perform in auditions.

Across the hour, the class will be guided through different Streetdance-based grooves and ‘party dances’. We’ll break it down & we’ll build it up.
